We had been to Carlsbad California multiple times and it is our favorite city in Southern California. Carlsbad is called “The Village by the Sea” and its the combination of perfect weather and pristine beach that makes it a popular vacation destination for tourists, a weekend getaway for families and a wonderful place to live.

Carlsbad is about 87 miles south of Los Angeles which is about 2 hours drive with normal traffic, and about 35 miles north of downtown San Diego which could take about 30 minutes to a lot longer of a drive because traffic is always notoriously bad during daytime.

Of the many times that we visited Carlsbad, we realized there are 5 attractions families should visit in this small but beautiful city.

LEGOLAND Park

If your destination is Carlsbad California, you got to see LEGOLand!

Treigv,Domer and Troy!

The LEGOLAND  Park is based on the LEGO toy brand, and is the first LEGOLand Park outside of Europe, and it was first opened in March 20,1999.

The cousins trying to make their own Lego cars to race.

Troy getting his very own driver’s license.

This is a theme park with over 60 rides, attractions and shows.

LEGO bionicle character.

LEGO Star Wars Space Ship.

The month of October is special for its Brick or Treat Halloween Event which occurs every Saturday from 5 pm to 9 pm and with added features like treat stations and special entertainment.

We used to go to LEGOLand when the kids were a lot younger and the last time we went was in 2016, the older kids got bored, so we didn’t go there anymore. We had 3 whole years of LEGOLand membership in the past.

This was in 2009. No Troy yet!

The Miniature Park consists of America’s mini cities and buildings from California, Las Vegas, Washington DC, New Orleans and even New England Harbor. Star Wars was added in 2011 which contains different scenes from the Star Wars movie episodes.

The mini Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco,California.

The mini MGM Hotel and the Eiffel Tower, Las Vegas

The mini Aladdin Hotel,Las Vegas

The mini Treasure Island Hotel, Las Vegas

This attraction always fascinated the kids and me because the mini cities looked beautiful and the work they put in to complete the MiniLand is amazing.

This is one place where you can visit multiple cities with in an hour or less, if you are in a hurry. It is good to watch and enjoy some miniature cities come alive with cars driving down the mini streets and mini water fountain going, with mini river and lake along with mini water crafts.

The LEGOLAND Water Park is an add-on to the LEGOLAND Park ticket and the water park is open seasonal from the end of March  to October only. For the month of September and October however, the water park is only open on the weekends, only Saturdays and Sundays.

Cool off in the pool with LEGO floaters, or spend time at the children’s water play area.

Troy was probably about 3 years old when we actually went to the water park and the children were a lot younger then. Today, the kids have moved on to a water park that is for bigger kids.

The Sea Life Aquarium is another upgrade to your LEGOLAND park ticket for an additional fee. The Sea Life Aquarium features a family friendly and interactive life at sea and hands on experience for little children and adults too, featuring more than 350 different species and more than 6,000 sea creatures.

There is a hands on learning area where children can hold a star fish and other sea species and an attendant that does a very good educational talk about the sea creatures. This is a small but fun aquarium to explore and you will leave the place satisfied with your sea life experience.

Our  children specially loved the jelly fish exhibit, the clever octopus and the touch pools. And when your self guided tour is done, relax and fill your tummies with their delicious fresh and flavorful lunch and snacks at the Ocean Journey Cafe.

At the Ocean Journey Cafe where you can still enjoy watching some sea life while enjoying your meal or snack.

You can buy musical souvenirs and leave the museum singing a happy tune! Again, check ticket deals at groupon.com for a discounted admission fee.

Carlsbad State Beach

Enjoy the sun, sand and sea in this 7 mile stretch of pristine Carlsbad State Beach!

If you look closely, you’ll see a number of surfers at sea.

Carlsbad has 7 miles stretch of pristine beach.

This is our favorite attraction in Carlsbad because our family love to frolic at the beach whenever we get a chance. Playing in the sugar fine white sand will always be a pleasure, and with the warm southern California weather, splashing in the cool Pacific waters is always a refreshing relief.

We love taking a morning walk along the white sandy shore, or just sit and relax under our umbrella as we watch the kids boogie board and play in the crashing waves.

Don’t forget to slather everyone generously with sunscreen for protection against the harsh UV rays.

And don’t forget that this attraction is nature’s gift to all of us for free!

The Flower Fields At Carlsbad Ranch

Of all the times we visited Carlsbad, this is the one place that I always wanted to see but never had the chance to visit yet because the flower fields is open seasonally.

My niece Daphne, My sister in law Meriam and my daughter Tyreen.

The Flower Fields is the result of over 85 years of floral cultivation which started with the early settler and horticulturist Luther Gage in 1920s. Today, the Flower Fields of Carlsbad Ranch  comprises about 50 acres of beautiful and colorful blooming flowers of different varieties that lasts for about 6 to 8 weeks each year from early March to early May.

The bloom is considered as the official announcement of the arrival of the Spring Season!

Hopefully in this coming spring, I will get the chance to personally see these amazing blooming gardens!

Carlsbad may be a small city but it has a whole lot of choices for your family adventures!

When are you going to visit Carlsbad?
